What is critical access hospital (cah)?
A critical access hospital is a small rural hospital with 25 or fewer inpatient beds that receives cost-based Medicare reimbursement.
CAHs anchor care in counties where the next hospital may be an hour away. They frequently run lean case-management teams and often use EHRs other than Epic, which is why a web referral path matters as much as an in-chart one.
Under RHT, CAHs are common subrecipients and common partners to local EMS agencies standing up community paramedicine.
